On this date in 1980, The Ruts released their sixth and final single with lead singer Malcolm Owen, "West One (Shine On Me)". It was backed by "The Crack". The A side appeared on their second and final album, Grin & Bear It. The B side was a non-LP side that was added as a bonus track on their first album, The Crack, when it was re-released on CD. The single reached the #43 spot on the U.K. singles chart. Lead singer Malcolm Owen had died of a heroin overdose on July 14, 1980. After the release of this single, the band would become known as Ruts DC. They disbanded in 1983.
